Even Triliment City has it's shadowy spots. This is despite all those damnned lights. My name's Leo Barrelex and I'm a pro at tracking and killing demons. Not that you'd care too much. I've seen 'em come and go- and that's not just demons... Anyone close to you: lovers, friends, family (if i had one).
I was hidden in a barrel at the back of the Old Bordo Inn, the one built before that crappy one near the Emerald Tube. Ah the memories. My first victorious barfight.... Back to the tale, I hidden in this friggin' barrel due to a rumor of a mage cult dedicated to demon summoning. In simpler terms, this was a major vein. I stopped my breathing for a second or two. I'm still not sure how long it was, but it felt like forever...The footsteps that made me short my breath closed in.
I listened to them. Six legs total: one heavy biped, one almost equine. The biped had a limp in his left. And equine had a tail, as I was lifted while they turned. They were arguing in Keru (or the new common toungue for those not familiar), while using demonic slang.
Biped:" What's with this?? Those asswipes want us, US, to open that rift gate some more and let 'Bigger and smarter Demonic forces appear under our command'. Buncha bunpks...
Equine:"Bunpks is right. Nothing else, they'll be bigger and stronger and stupider and..."
Biped: "Shaddap Ponce. I'm the complainer here. They said they'll need ale to celebrate this supposed upcoming rift opening. Retarded humanoids. 'Cept them elven folk. They're all right.
Ponce: "Agreed. Hey Kus? Grab this thing... It don't feel right.."
Me:" No kidding. Having my barrel fondled. The nerve..."
I slipped out of that barrel at this point. I needed the air and exercise anyway. Kus and Ponce were low (second and third from the bottom) on the bounty list, so I just knocked the dolts out. Not worth staining my knives and short sword for. I took a look at them, for memories sake. Ponce was four legged, with two thin and weak arms pretty much hanging off his chest. Kus, was grossly obese, and unlike Ponce, had thick muscular arms, but pathetic legs. I was surprised they weren't snapped already.
Moving in the shadows was easy. I waved my cloak, creating a black haze for extra protection. The bastards had redesigned the place, and not in the good way. A pinnacle graced the circular room, with the afore noted rift hanging like a painting on the wall. I'd wait for a chance for a dramatic entry. I always liked those last minute wins.
